Botswana

Botswana is a unique African destination: an unusual combination of desert and delta that draws an immense concentration of wildlife to its complex of wetlands in the winter and a dazzling array of birdlife during the summer. It is also wild, pristine and expansive. Thirty-nine percent of the country is protected in some form or another, including almost the entire northern third of the country, and its national parks and reserves provide a safe haven for some 85 species of mammal and over 1,075 species of bird. It is the ultimate safari destination.

Kalahari Mobile Safari

A local representative will pick you up early this morning to transfer you to the mobile safari meeting point. You may store excess luggage with our local office in Maun while you are off on safari. Your mobile safari begins in Maun where your guide will meet you and the rest of your group at 7:30AM at a pre-arranged meeting point. You will travel 180km to a game farm on the northern border of the Central Kalahari Game reserve, set up camp and have a safari briefing. In the afternoon you will participate in a nature walk led by local San Bushmen trackers. They will share their intricate bush knowledge and give you an insight into their unique and intriguing culture. Camping at a lodge campsite with fixed ablutions. (This service is on a group basis.)

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is the second largest protected wildlife area in the world, covering 51,800 square kilometers. It is one of the most remote and unspoiled parts of Africa. The desert's beauty is uncompromisingly harsh, but utterly breathtaking and has captured the imagination of explorers for centuries. The Kalahari is characterized by vast open spaces, endless horizons, rolling golden grasslands and flaming sunrises and sunsets. Within this remote and expansive landscape, you will discover a rich diversity of life. The Central Kalahari is home to numerous unique desert dwelling species, each with their own remarkable adaptation to survive the parched landscape.

You will wake up as the sun rises and enter the pristine wilderness of the largest game reserve in Botswana. The next four days will be spent exploring the undeveloped wilderness of the northern region of the Kalahari, moving from camp to camp. Savor the vast open spaces, clear night skies and uninterrupted beauty on game drives and at camp. After our final morning game drive in the Kalahari we return to the area of Maun. In the afternoon, you will have the option of taking a scenic flight over the Delta (45 minutes Maun to Maun scenic flight, cost TBA for 2022, minimum 3 pax – to be booked the day before the mobile safari begins, payment in cash only). This magical experience provides another perspective of the Okavango Delta’s distinctive water system. During the flight it is even possible to spot large game animals such as Elephant, Giraffe and Hippopotami.

The night will be enjoyed in the comfort of a lodge outside of Maun. (This service is on a group basis.)

The mobile safari officially ends at 8:00AM today at the lodge. Say goodbye to your mobile safari friends and a local representative will drive you to Maun airport in good time to board your charter flight to the Moremi Crossing airstrip in the Okavango Delta. (This service is on a group basis.)

Since Moremi Crossing is a water based camp, your adventure kicks off from the moment you arrive, either by mokoro or boat from the airstrip. This exclusive area hosts a wide variety of animal and bird species, perfect for the Botswana safari you have always dreamed of.

Your fully inclusive rate at Moremi Crossing covers all meals, drinks, activities, park fees, laundry services & return airstrip transfers. Premium imported wines, champagnes and spirits are excluded. The activities include game & bird walks, in addition to seasonal mokoro trips & boat cruises.

Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta is one of the world's largest inland deltas situated in the middle of the largest stretch of continuous sand in the world - the Kalahari basin. This oasis in the middle of the desert is a rich yet fragile ecosystem, providing a life source for an incredible variety of wildlife. A wealth of species have adapted to the contrasting conditions created by living in the harsh Kalahari desert which is transformed annually with the arrival of the delta flood waters originating in Angola.

Camp Activities

Become part of the bustling river life along the papyrus clad banks of the Okavango Delta. Explore the wilderness with game drives, guided bush walks, or sit back and absorb the scenery from a traditional 'mokoro' canoe. Another great way to explore the crystal clear channels of the Boro River is by motor-boat. Watch the sun set while drifting along a lagoon and sipping on sundowners. For the adventurous, we also offer a rustic island camping experience (whihc must be pre-booked). Game drives will be available only when water levels are low. There will be no game drives when water levels are high as areas of the concession become inaccessible. Mokoros, boat cruises & fishing are also water level dependent.

Each of these extraordinary excursions offer the chance to experience the Okavango Delta and its wildlife from a much slower paced and intimate perspective.

This morning you will transfer back to the airstrip for your charter flight to Santawani airstrip and then transfer to your next destination in the Delta, Rra Dinare Camp. This camp is set in a private concession, adjacent to Moremi Game Reserve on the south-eastern side of the Delta. It overlooks the Gomoti River and its flood plains and the camp has been designed to embrace the natural surroundings.

Moremi Introduction

Moremi Game Reserve is situated in the eastern corner of the Okavango Delta. Moremi is one of the most beautiful and varied reserves found on the African continent with huge concentrations of wildlife and incredible scenery. The reserve consists of both swamped areas such as Xakanaxa, and dry-land areas like Khwai.

Camp Activities

Rra Dinare Camp features the best of the Okavango Delta. This exclusive and game-rich area offers a mixed habitat comprising of the Gomoti River and its channels, lush riverine forests, scenic big open flood plains interspersed with clusters of palm-treed islands and Acacia and Mopane woodlands. Day and night game drives take place in the private concession adjacent to Moremi Game Reserve. These are on and off road safaris, comprising six people, a guide and a tracker (at night). Rra Dinare also offers seasonal water activities on the Gomoti river and game walks are available depending on local conditions. Mokoros are water level dependent.

Hippo and crocodile can be found in the deeper lagoons and larger predators, such as lion, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest can all be seen roaming throughout the area as well. If you are lucky, some of the nocturnal animals, like civet and genet, may be seen on night drives too. Birding enthusiasts will enjoy the regular sightings of Pels Fishing Owl, African Fish Eagle, Giant Eagle Owl and White Backed Vultures. This morning you will transfer back to Santawani airstrip in good time for your charter flight back to Maun. Our local representative will meet you at the airport on arrival with your extra suitcase and transfer you to Audi Camp for the night. Enjoy your last night in Botswana!
