Spend the morning at leisure.
After breakfast, you'll set out for the historic town of Galle.
Discover Galle
In the afternoon, explore the Galle Fort with your guide and step back in time. Walk the cobbled streets with more than 400 years of history from Arab merchants, adventurous Portuguese, and industrious Dutch. See colonial homes with their red-tiled roofs, an impressive rampart surrounding a small peninsula jutting out to the Indian Ocean. The fort is still a living monument with families who have lived for generations there. While visiting Galle, you will have a chance of seeing a small Sri Lankan microcosm where Buddhists and Muslims live together. (This service is on a private basis.)
Local Family Dinner
This evening we head towards a local home where a quintessentially southern family awaits to host you for a dinner that is prepared with love, care, and Sri Lanka's renowned hospitality.
The setup is quite relaxed, a novel setting for a lovely dinner. Then come the dishes, served by a beaming Natasha, the lady of the house. Her husband (a chef!) will cook some dishes for you as well if he happens to be at home on the day. Apart from fish (baked or curried) and the Kadey Paan (Bread), Coconut will be the star player of the menu ranging from the Coconut Roti and the Coconut Sambol to the dessert which will be stuffed crepes with Pani Pol (mix of Coconut & Treacle).
Rules of engagement here would be that you have a good time with Natasha and her family and for you to experience the southern blend of hospitality which stands the testament of time. Yes, the Dutch Fort has a plethora of lovely restaurants, but nothing compares to a meal served by family, because that is what you are to Natasha. (This service is on a private basis.)
Galle
Galle attracts many travelers due to its location in the Southern part of the island. Therefore, most who come to Galle never miss enjoying the beauty of the sea and sand. Galle Dutch Fort is among the more popular sights for those who value archaeological reserves and heritage. It is known as the oldest fort in Asia, name as a world heritage city by UNESCO. Inside the fort, travelers can find other attractions such as the Dutch Museum, which contains paintings, pictures, and furniture of the Dutch Reformed Church. The fort is built on a small peninsula that can be easily accessed from the Galle town center. It is the best place to visit during an evening when the picturesque scenery of the sunset can be enjoyed.
